Here I am
giving some informatio about CHAPRAMARI
WILDLIFE SANCTUARY, Dooars. It is close to Gorumara National Park. So, it can be a joint trip of Gorumara
National Park & Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary. Chapramari is about 30 kms
from Chalsa. So, if you prefer
railway, you have to reach at Siliguri
first, Or, if you travel by Kanchankanya
Express (from Sealdah Station), then you can directly reach to Malbazar (New Mal Junction Station),
from where Chalsa is only 8 kms (approx.). If yoou prefer airlines, then you
have to reach Siliguri through Bagdogra
airport. From Siliguri it will take 2 hrs 30 mins (approx.) to reach Chalsa by
road with a wonderfull views of Dooars. Rented cars are available from Siliguri
to Chapramari.
The name “Chapra”
comes from a variety of small fishes found in North Bengal, and, “Mari” means “Abundance”. Chapramari was declared as
a National Reserve Forest under the
Indian Forest Act, in 1895. The Chapramari Wildlife Reserve came to be
used in 1939. And finally, the
Government of India gave it the status of a National Wildlife Sanctuary in 1998.
It has only 9.6 sq. kms covered area and is located near the the NH31A and on the northern side of
Gorumara National Park. Chapramari receives waters from Teesta, Neora and Murti.
Here, a
large variety of flora and fauna are found in the forest. Chapramari is well
known for its Elephant population.
Apart from it, Gaur (Indian Bison), Royal Bengal Tiger, Deer, Boars and Leopards are also founf here. Chapramari
Wildlife Sanctuary is very much popular with Bird Watchers with Parrots, Kingfishers, Green Pigeons etc.

Road
Distance : Siliguri to malbazar : 55 kms.,
Malbazar to chalsa : 8 kms (approx), Siliguri to chalsa : 63 kms (approx).
